My Approach

I believe everyone is unique and special. As an experienced integrative counsellor, I am able to tailor my approach to meet your individual needs and requirements. My training and experience enables me to consider a variety of approaches and incorporate several schools of thought (person-centered, existential, psychodynamic, post-modern philosophies, etc.) enabling me to adopt a pluralistic approach which is flexible and personalised to meet your specific needs and requirements. I have experience working with a diverse range of emotional difficulties and circumstances and offer a counselling service for individuals, couples, families, and young people, 16 years and over.

My priority is to ensure that clients are carefully listened to, respected and understood. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental environment where clients can explore, learn, grow and develop into the people they want to be, and the life they want to live.

I work on the fundamental principal that 'talking really helps' and both counselling and psychotherapy are Talking Therapies. I work with individuals on a one-to-one basis, couples together and individually if it is considered to be helpful, and families. I believe its success is dependent on the development of a safe and mutually trusting relationship. I will endeavour to promote this by providing you with a non-judgemental, safe, secure and confidential environment where through open conversation I will carefully listen to you as you talk through issues that are causing you concern or emotional difficulty. I will encourage you to openly express and examine your thoughts, feelings and emotions, whilst unconditionally providing you with different perspectives, insights and professional support.
My goal is to help you gain a greater understanding and increase your self-awareness, which will give you a sense of control and improve your wellbeing. This can often take time and dedication; therefore, I offer both open-ended and short term counselling.

I will not provide answers or advice but by working together our aim will be to help you gain a greater understanding of the issues, fears and life experiences, both past and present, which might be causing emotional conflict and turmoil in your life. Counselling will provide you with a real opportunity for meaningful change and personal development, which is often the first step on your path to discovering a more positive life.

I work according to the ethical framework for counselling as laid down by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, which is based on the principles of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard, to which I am a committed member and attend regular supervision and Professional Development seminars.
